We’re going to take a closer look at two products that are like water on steroids (without the harmful side effects), ASEA and coconut water. While at their production plant we were able to talk with the scientists behind the science of ASEA. They explained the benefits of using ASEA (we’ll get to that in a minute), the process of creating ASEA, where the redox signalling happens, and why it’s so important to your body. The whole tour was very eye opening to the advancements that are being made in personal healthcare, and the new things that are being discovered about the human body. Benefits of Drinking ASEA
Several years ago we heard about these new, miracle products that helped improve antioxidants in the body. The first question that everyone asked was, “What are antioxidants? They sound made up.” Well with time and the continuation of studies we discovered that antioxidants are extremely important to the human body and cellular function. However, studies have not been done to see if there are any negative effects on pregnant women or a developing fetus. Also, it is not advised that you take ASEA if you’re breastfeeding or are pregnant. Although the salt contained in an ounce of ASEA is less than a carrot, you will want to take to a physician if you have a salt sensitivity.
What Is Coconut Water?
Coconut water is different than coconut milk or coconut meat. Coconut water, in its purest form, is the clear liquid inside young green coconuts. Coconut water is found mainly in tropical climates and anywhere coconut trees are present. Coconut water can be safely consumed from commercial products or straight from the coconut. You can often find street vendors selling coconut water who will cut them open with a machete, or similar instrument, in front of you. Most often coconut water is consumed freshly cut or slightly chilled to help improve taste.
Benefits of Drinking Coconut Water
Coconut water has long been a staple for people living in tropical islands. It has been described by marketers as “Mother Nature’s sports drink” or “Mother Nature’s energy drink” because of the high electrolyte content. Coconut water also has fewer calories, less sodium, and more potassium than a sports drink. Coconut water is inherently less sugary than sports drinks, which make it a great replacement for them.
Athletes have also found the benefits of using coconut water. Professional tennis player John Isner credited coconut water in helping him not cramp up and finish his epic 11-hour Wimbledon tennis match. Studies also suggest that coconut water may be better at replacing lost fluids better than some sports drinks. However, the amount you’d have to drink to replace those lost fluids would be significant.
Coconut water is a great way to stay hydrated in severe heat conditions and tropical settings. Coconut water is an all-natural way to hydrate, reduce sodium, and add potassium to diets. Other benefits of coconut water include digestive and metabolic help, good source of B-complex vitamins (riboflavin, niacin, thiamin, pyridoxine) high source of potassium, source for vitamin C, and is a good source of cytokinins (which are believed to help with anti-ageing, are anti-carcinogenic, and anti-thrombic).
Should I Drink Coconut Water?
Because of the market success of coconut water the market has been flooded with knock offs and imitations of coconut water. Some companies use concentrate instead of the fresh juice coconut water where the beneficial enzymes are located. Also, instead of using young coconuts that are still green companies will use “mature” coconuts. When a coconut is “mature” the nutrients are no longer in the water of the coconut, but in its meat. Companies also destroy the benefits of coconut water by adding “natural flavors” or sweeteners, or pasteurizing it with heat. These methods break down the delicate nature of coconut water and can ruin the naturally occurring enzymes in the water.
While the benefits of coconut water have been validated, the extent of those benefits may be exaggerated. A 2014 article by the New York Times cited cases where marketers were a little over-aggressive in their claims of the health benefits related to coconut water. There are several instances where a company has had to scale back or even stop promoting certain health benefits of coconut water because of little/no evidence to back those claims up.
Because of the large amounts of potassium that are in coconut water, consuming large amounts of it can actually be detrimental to your health. Too much potassium in your body can result in acute kidney failure, heart arrhythmia, loss of consciousness, or even death.
ASEA or Coconut Water?
When used in moderation, both of these drinks can be beneficial to your health. Coconut water is primarily used for rehydrating yourself after physical activity in severe heat to help restore and replenish electrolytes. Coconut water is also used by medical professionals to rehydrate patients when medical saline isn’t available, and has been used as a treatment for diarrhea. ASEA, on the other hand, is a supplement that is focused on cellular communication. It helps restore cellular function, and has been proven to protect and rejuvenate your cells. When your cells fail to communicate it can lead to poor health, loss of vitality, and loss of energy. ASEA helps restore those functions and can provide a boost to you.

After the workout, you can refuel with coconut water to help restore those lost electrolytes while also keeping all of the extra, unwanted sugars out of your body.
Remember with any workout program or any health program that you consult a physician first to make sure that it won’t negatively affect your health. While ASEA is inherently safe and is non-toxic and coconut water has been used by medical professionals for years, but it is still smart to discuss the potential effects of it with your healthcare professional.
